Are you like me and kinda hate carrying a big ol purse or bag when you are just running out of the house real quick? I came up with this pattern because I was having a hard time pushing my sons small stroller when I went to pickup my daughter from school. All I needed was a pocket for my keys and phone. Since I live in leggings and t-shirts, I never have any pockets! So I made this over the weekend and, let me tell you, this is EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED! It is so perfect that I had to share it with all of you. So that’s what I am going to do! Scroll down for free knitting pattern.

Free Knitting Pattern – My Everyday Bag
Supplies
Before you start knitting, you are going to need to gather your supplies. First thing you need to get for this free knitting pattern is the yarn. For this pattern, you will need to get 1 skein of yarn, but you will not need to use the full skein of yarn. Honestly, I just pulled a small ball of yarn from my scrap yarn pile. If you want to make these purses exactly as pictured, you will find links to all the yarn I used for each one under the shopping list with the free knitting pattern below. But really, you can use any worse weight # 4 yarn you like. Once you see how easy it is to knit this bag, you are going to want to make one in every color!

After you get the yarn, all you need are 3.25mm knitting needles for the bag and a 3.5mm crochet hook for the strap, and a tapestry needle to sew the bag together. A few other things I like to use when I knit and crochet, but you do not have to, are a yarn bowl to keep my yarn neat and not getting tangled all over the place, and a yarn winder to make nice neat center pull yarn cakes. And if you are going to block these knit bags, you are going to want to pick up a set of blocking boards.
Me too! Lets do this…

For the bottom of the bag, you are going to knit 12 rows. This creates a thicker bottom for the bag. (72 totals rows)*

Ch until you reach the desired length for the strap, leaving a long tail to use for sewing the strap to the bag.
I chained 231 stitches
Starting in the second stitch in Ch, DC each stitch, 2 DC in last stitch of Ch.
DO NOT TURN! You will be working the other side of the Ch.
2 DC in the first stitch on the other side of the Ch.
DC into each stich until you reach the end of the Ch. Tie off leaving a long tail to sew the strap to bag.
Assembly
If you would like to block you bag, now is a good time to do it. I wet blocked both of these bags, one before assembly and one after and honestly, it didn’t seem to matter too much. Do whichever works best for you.
Regardless on whether or not you choose to block your knit bag, you still have to sew it all together. You can use a tapestry needle or your crochet hook to sew your bag together. If you choose to use your crochet hook, you will use a slip stitch.
With your bag inside out, line up the ridges (you should have 7 ribs on both sides) and stitch both sides together using the long tails you left when you casted on and bound off.
The bag still being inside out, now you are going to attach the straps. Using the long tails you left on your strap, sew the strap inside of the bag. I went down two sections of stripes to make sure it was secure.
Flip your bag and fill it up! Your done, you did it! I knew you could!
