The Yarn
Before you dive into making your new favorite fall accessory, let’s gather supplies! For this free easy crochet Pumpkin Spice ear warmers pattern, you’ll only need a single skein of Caron Simply Soft yarn. Best part? You won’t even use the whole skein! This makes it the perfect budget-friendly, stash-busting project for cozy autumn crafting.
For my Pumpkin Spice Collection, I used these cozy shades:

This yarn is buttery soft with just the right amount of cozy, and the warm Pumpkin Spice shade makes it perfect for autumn. The best part? These ear warmers work up so quickly and easily that you’ll be tempted to make a whole stack of them!

The Tools
Once you’ve picked out your yarn, the rest of the supplies are simple. All you’ll need to complete this free easy crochet Pumpkin Spice ear warmers pattern is a 3.5mm crochet hook and a tapestry needle for weaving in ends and sewing the headband together.
Now, those are the basics, but if you’re anything like me, you might enjoy a few extra tools that make the process smoother (and a bit more enjoyable). I personally love using a yarn bowl to keep my skein from bouncing around or getting tangled while I work. It’s not a must-have, but it definitely helps keep things neat, especially if you’re crocheting on the couch with a pet or kid nearby.
Another favorite of mine is a yarn winder. It’s a game changer if you like center-pull yarn cakes that don’t roll all over the place. Again, totally optional, but if you crochet often, it might be worth adding to your toolkit.
Once you’ve got everything gathered, you’re ready to get started!

Pattern
Start by chaining until you can wrap the chain around your head with the ends touching (I chained 101 stitches for my headbands)
Half Double Crochet (HDC) in the back loop of stitch starting in the 2nd stitch in the chain all the way across, chain 1 and turn (100 sts)
Repeat this until you have 8 ribs, or 16 rows (not including your cast on and foundation row)
If you choose to do the Pumpkin Spice stripes, each color is two rows or one rib. Learn how to change colors and weave in your ends here.
Once you are done crocheting the panel, tie off, leaving a long tail.

Assembly
Now it’s time to assemble your ear warmer! Using the long yarn tail you left, you’ll sew the two ends of the headband together. There are a couple of ways to do this, but for that twisted look, here’s how I like to do it:
Instead of lining up the ends flat, take both ends and fold them in half. Then interlock them, kind of like two hands clasping together. One folded end should sandwich into the other, with the edges alternating top and bottom. It might feel a little weird at first, but once you see it, it’ll make sense!
Sew through all four layers using your favorite seaming method, then flip the headband right side out and voilà! You’ve got yourself a warm, cozy, fall inspired twisted ear warmer ready to wear or gift!
