Spooky Season Knit Pillow Cover – The Yarn

First thing you are going to need for this halloween knitting pattern is the yarn. This pillow cover uses less than 1 skeins of each of the following colors of Red Heart Super Saver Yarn: Black, Charcoal, Spring Green, Amethyst and Pumpkin . This yarn is nice but kinda scratchy. I made this with scrap yarn I already had on hand. If I were to go out and buy yarn to knit this Halloween pillow cover, I would use Caron Simply Soft in: Black, Charcoal Heather, Lime Light, Iris and Pumpkin. This is my go to yarn brand in most of my projects. It is soft, nice to work with, inexpensive and easy to take care of. I have two young children and I need everything in my house to be machine washable. These covers have been thrown in the washing machine with various of other household items and they have come out perfectly clean and even softer than when they went in.

Spooky Season Knit Pillow Cover – Needles

Next you are going to need the tools to knit with. For this easy Halloween knitting pattern, I used my favorite knitting needles, ChiaoGoo Red Lace Knitting Needle US Size 3. I have used so many needles: plastic ones, bamboo ones, cheep mystery metal, and these ones are so nice. I have so many US size 3 needles because it is my absolute favorite size and these ChiaoGoo needles are my favorite brand. If you are looking to build a knitting supply stash and are just starting out, I cannot recommend these ChiaoGoo Twist Stainless Steel Interchangeable Set enough. They are a little on the pricy side, but they are really the only set of needles you will ever need, so long you don’t have 5 WIPs (works in progress) going, all on the same size needles all at once like I do.

Additional Supplies

There are only a few other items you may want to get make this knit pillow cover pattern a little easier. You will probably want to get some spacers. For this pattern I used 2 spacers. Placing pacer every so many stitches make it easier to count stitches in smaller groups. You may also want to get a row counter. Honestly, this pattern is pretty easy to count without one, but it may make it easier to keep track of your row count if you are just starting out knitting. Lastly you will need a tapestry needle or small crochet hook to stitch up the sides of the pillow case.

There are few other things I like to use when I knit. I like using a yarn bowl to keep my yarn from getting tangled all over the place, a yarn winder to make nice neat center pull yarn cakes and a fabric shaver to make those lines crisp and the pattern POP!
