Pillow Covers! Pillow covers are a great space saving way to instantly change the look of your room without having to store a bunch of bulky pillows. Because of this, pillow covers are some of my favorite types of knitting projects. In addition to saving space, stripey pillow covers are even better because they are great for using up scrap yarn. I had this yarn left over from other projects and this project was prefect for using it up. Another reason I am OBSESSED with knitting pillow covers is that they are so easy to make. With a toddler running around, I need to have a pattern that is pretty mindless, without a lot f stitch counting or switches. This easy knitting pattern is perfect for an experienced knitter looking for a project you can do with your eyes closed or a beginner knitter looking to practice.

Purple Moon Knit Pillow Cover – Yarn
Before you start knitting, you are going to need to gather your supplies. First thing you need to get for this easy knitting pattern is the yarn. With this pattern, you will not need to use the full skeins of yarn. I used scrap yarn to make this. If you are going to buy the yarn fresh for this project you will need 1 skein of the following yarns: Caron Simply Soft Solids Yarn – Pumpkin, Caron Simply Soft Solids Yarn – Feathered Gray, Caron Simply Soft Yarn Solids in Grape, Caron Simply Soft Yarn Solids in Watermelon, and Caron Simply Soft Heathers Yarn – Gray Heather. This is my go to yarn brand in most of my projects. It is soft, nice to work with, inexpensive and easy to take care of. I have two young children and I need everything in my house to be machine washable. These covers have been thrown in the washing machine with various of other household items and they have come out perfectly clean and even softer than when they went in.

Purple Moon Knit Pillow Cover – Needles
Next you are going to need the tools to knit with. For this knit pillow cover pattern I used my favorite knitting needles, ChiaoGoo Red Lace Knitting Needle US Size 5. I have used so many needles, plastic ones, bamboo ones, cheep mystery metal, and these ChiaoGoo needles are my favorite. If you are looking to build a knitting supply stash and are just starting out, I cannot recommend these ChiaoGoo Twist Stainless Steel Interchangeable Set enough. They are a little on the pricy side, but they are really the only set of needles you will ever need.

Additional Supplies
There are only a few other items you may want to get make this knit pillow cover pattern a little easier. You will probably want to get some spacers. For this pattern I used 3 spacers. Placing pacer every so many stitches make it easier to count stitches in smaller groups. You will also want to get a row counter. This pattern has a lot of different size rows and you may get lost in the pattern if you are not keeping careful track of the rows. Lastly you will need a tapestry needle or small crochet hook to stitch up the sides of the pillow case.
A few other things I like to use when I knit, but you do not have to are a yarn bowl to keep my yarn neat and not getting tangled all over the place, and a yarn winder to make nice neat center pull yarn cakes.
