The Yarn

The first thing you’ll need for this easy crochet coaster pattern is the yarn. For mine, I used Caron Simply Soft in Pumpkin, Off White Tweed, and Taupe. This is a soft, budget-friendly yarn that’s one of my favorites to work with. It’s completely machine washable, a must in my house with two kids!

Even better? With just these three skeins, I was able to make 15 crochet coasters in a variety of designs, perfect for decorating my home for fall, giving as handmade gifts or selling in my shop. Once you’ve picked out your yarn, the rest of the supplies are simple. All you’ll need to complete this easy crochet coaster pattern is a 3.5mm crochet hook and a row counter.

Now, those are the basics, but if you’re anything like me, you might enjoy a few extra tools that make the process smoother (and a bit more enjoyable). I personally love using a yarn bowl to keep my skein from bouncing around or getting tangled while I work. It’s not a must-have, but it definitely helps keep things neat, especially if you’re crocheting on the couch with a pet or kid nearby.

Another favorite of mine is a yarn winder. It’s a game changer if you like center-pull yarn cakes that don’t roll all over the place. Again, totally optional, but if you crochet often, it might be worth adding to your toolkit.
